Lore
Development on the Nomad began in 2942, two full years before the release of the Mustang. Originally under the name MANTA (Multi-crew Accessible New Transport), and being led by Dr. Charlotte Roland, the original vision of the Nomad was that of competitor to the 罗伯茨太空工业 Constellation spacecraft. The ship was meant to be the first step in a subsidiary of Consolidated Outland that focused on rental spacecraft.[3]
By 2944, the plan was that MANTA would be a large multi-crew ship built with off-the-shelf-components and requiring only its small central cabin to have any real construction take place. Additionally, coming in at a cool 750,00UEC, the Koerner's vision of low-cost competitor was in sight. One signficant cost-saving measure was an exposed cargo bay, akin to industrial haulers, rather than a more costly contained cargo hold. However, shortly after the launch of the Mustang, Koerner would become more involved with the development process. His first change, the name; favoring that of Nomad, giving those interested in the ship the idea that they were able to strike out on their own.[3]
Soon after Koerner's increase in interest in the ship, he would introduce more changes, opting for a single-seat transporter over a multi-crew ship. This and other changes led to the resignation of Dr. Roland, which caused significant delays in the project coming to fruition.[3]
One of the few surviving features of the shift from the MANTA to the Nomad was that of the exterior cargo hold. By the time to Nomad prototype was completed, its cost was closer to that of a million credits (still a significant amount below that of the Constellation). One of the largest reasons for the price increase was due to the hover technology needed to be developed to sustain the exterior cargo hull.[3]
In 2950 the Nomad officially debued at the 2950 Intergalactic Aerospace Expo, becoming available for purchase the same day it was announced.[3]
"When we introduced the Mustang line back in 2944, our aim was to reshape the dream of spaceflight. Since then, much has changed in the way we traverse the stars. The universe itself has expanded, with infinite opportunities waiting out there for all of us brave enough to chase them. The time has come to reshape the dream yet again. To push further than we ever have before. The time has come for the Nomad."
Silas Koerner, 2950
After the release of the spacecraft, owners and pilots quickly saw its utility in moving small ground vehicles. With this in mind, Consolidated Outland developed the 悬浮驷 to pair with the ship that could be rapidly deployed from its cargo hold.[3]
Only one short year after the release of the Nomad, the ships original think-tank, Dr. Roland, purchased 192 copies of the ship for her new budget freighter rental company.[3]

Trivia
- The ship was long hidden from the public during its development, even though some rumors of it had surfaced. On November 19 however (a day before its release), reports came in that developers were attempting to "sneak-peek" the ship in the game, particularly by trying to show it to streamers.[4]
- The Nomad was revealed at the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2950. Jax McCleary hosted an exclusive video about the ship before its reveal.[5]
