特色功能

  • 双座舱： 防卫者采用了巴努别开生面的主驾驶和副驾驶设计，副驾驶能够在防卫者的双座舱系统中与主驾驶一起控制主武器。如果需要的话，副驾驶能够专注于飞船检修或是其他事务，让主驾驶能够专心飞行。[1] 与人类进口的型号不同，为巴努人打造的防卫者两个座舱功能是单独区分开来的，主驾驶与副驾驶没法共享控制。这是因为巴努飞行员更喜欢专精于某个职业，而人类飞行员更喜欢根据情况需要灵活变更职责。
  • 方阵护盾： 塔维因的方阵护盾结合轻型oxus复合装甲，让这架战机轻便灵敏，非常适合在战斗中进行快速机动。
  • 极简内饰： 由于突出战斗，防卫者只有非常小的载货空间与住宿区域。引擎与组件都由可升降开启的脊柱状百叶帘盖住。舱门和百叶帘均与舱壁集成一体，打造出一种光滑无缝的艺术风格，同时也让操作员能够轻松接触到这些组件。
  • 超远航程： 巴努人研发防卫者来为巴努行商提供防护与伴飞，因此，其设计上拥有比同尺寸战斗机更远的航程。配备了燃料进气口、双油箱、大型量子驱动器以及一个强劲有效的跳跃驱动器。[4]

实用战术

防卫者在机动性方面优于超级大黄蜂 和军刀等人类战斗机，而后者则在武器与耐久性方面更胜一筹。防卫者擅长扰乱与迷惑潜在的攻击者，让受保护的目标（例如巴商）能够乘机安全逃走。防卫者的的速度与机动性让它们能够胜任防守点位、拦截威胁，以及快速反应包抄目标的任务。这些特性让防卫者真正地成为了防御好手。它们能让攻击者陷入两难的境地：要么浪费宝贵的时间与燃料去追逐灵活的护航机；要么就只能在专注于攻击巴商（？）时挨防卫者的毒打。由于袭击者通常喜欢驾驶火力强大、防护较薄弱的高速飞船，在这样的情况下确实不好取舍。[4]

历史背景

巴努行商虽然有一个巨大的载货区域，但其缺少防御大量袭击者的攻击能力。防卫者就是设计出来为行商提供防护与护航的。这艘飞船自人类与巴努在2438年的第一次接触起就一直存在，不过从那之后一直在不断改进。由于巴努与其他种族之间有着数百年的深入贸易往来，所以防卫者有着一个东拼西凑般的设计，集成了其他文明所用的各种科技元素。最新的型号上，护盾采用了塔维因的方阵护盾，并且弃用了此前的人类产推进器，转而使用了性能更优越的希安设计。这样的设计也突出了巴努工程学的一大特色，那就是他们会采用任何能让整体设计更好的科技。[5]

研发历程

防卫者的概念由Jan Urschel(自由概念画师)与Paul Jones(艺术总监)联手设计。[11]概念是要设计出一艘外星截击机，并且以此作为巴努材质的外观与质感，以及飞船制作流程和操控手感的原型；最终上述成果都将用于制作更大的巴努行商。[12] Jonny Jacevicius (技术设计师)、John Crewe (首席技术设计师)以及Todd Papy (设计总监) 负责该飞船的技术设计[4]

这艘飞船首次在2017年4月21日的RSIsite.svgBanu Defender concept sale中亮相。最初计划于3.5 版本发售，但后来推迟到3.6 版本，[13]然而再次推迟，并最终在2019年10月的3.7 版本登场。[14]
