歷史

落標於地球聯合帝國

彎刀最初是根據地球聯合帝國 2845年「民用戰鬥機」項目規範而開發的候選機型。這些規範要求一種低成本、可配置的太空戰鬥機，能夠在需要時迅速建造，以裝備遙遠的本土防衛中隊。儘管「彎刀」在競標中敗給了如今已被遺忘的Wildcat，但由Jan Dredge領導的開發團隊選擇將設計用於民用。

改弦更張

初始的銷售推介目標是私人militia組織。由於地球聯合帝國法律允許任何人在任何地方擁有武裝宇宙飛船，因此（德雷克）計劃（的銷售群體）是在銀河系較遠區域且需求一種低成本宇宙飛船解決方案的私人中隊。德雷克董事會認為，特別是那些被劃為高保險風險的地區，用一種更簡便的途徑來補充丟失的宇宙飛船（的方案）會特別受歡迎。

彎刀的銷售成績非凡。在九個月內，德雷克開設了六家星系外工廠，並在九個星系中設立了特許經銷商。又過了一年，公司的規模再次翻了兩番。在五年內，他們成為了第五大宇宙飛船製造商，且對子系統製造商的授權應接不暇。

盛行於法外組織

到30世紀的交會期，銀河系幾乎達到了前所未有的和平狀態。當時的剜度氏族襲擊顯得雜亂無章，邊疆殖民地的小規模衝突也相對有限，UEE military正處於數年的休整期。與此同時，法外組織正在大量購買彎刀，但德雷克公司對此並不特別關注。彎刀成為了走私者和海盜工具的新選擇，因為他們被排除在Citizens可獲得的標準保險系統之外。在有了彎刀之前，他們主要使用過時的淘汰品和軍用的剩餘物資，但得益於彎刀比（同級別飛船的）平均水平（擁有）更大的貨艙和更高客制化程度的性質，現在他們擁有了一種既滿足預算又能滿足需求的可輕鬆替換的宇宙飛船。一項分析發現，彎刀突然之間開始用於運輸毒品，襲擊貨物護航隊，甚至越來越頻繁地大膽挑戰警察巡邏。隨着時間的推移，彎刀的那種笨重、模塊化的外觀甚至開始重新定義海盜的形象，正如海盜重新定義了彎刀，為這一古老職業注入了新的生命。
