CONFIDENTIAL DISPATCHES – UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS VIOLATES IMPERIAL LAW

MESSAGE SENT: 2943#4#08 SET, 14:12gmt . . >

Dr. Fordhel,

I received your projected timetable and assessment regarding the collision of Ellis XI. We have consulted with the UEE military about what they would need to institute the necessary failsafes based on your recommendations. Are there any other contingencies we should be planning for?

Regards,

CLAY HARREN

UEE Senate Kampos/Ellis

Senator Harren,

Unfortunately, as this is the first time Humanity has been witness to such an event, we are in theoretical territory. We are currently several days away from completing our planetary analyses of Ellis XI and its moon; these analyses must be complete before simulating possible scenarios back at the Institute.

For the time being, I believe your deployment of the UEE military and the evacuation of the populace from nearby planets will certainly help, but we are fortunate that Judecca and Bombora are uninhabited so there seems to be little chance of immediate danger.

Best,

Aksha Fordhel, PhD

Dr. Fordhel,

Understood. We are attentively awaiting the findings of your geological expedition.

I have included Erin Patterson on this message exchange. Ms. Patterson is my chief of staff and will be organizing other facets of this event.

Senator Harren,

Thank you for your message. I have finished my analysis of Ellis XI and its moon. You will find my analysis embedded in this message.

If I may ask, what are the “other facets of the event” that Ms. Patterson is overseeing?

Respectfully,

Aksha Fordhel, PhD

Good morning Dr. Fordhel, Your findings were very exciting indeed.

They will be most helpful. Ms. Patterson is going to be our chief liaison to the various agencies that will be represent our system when it comes to the dissemination of mining rights and scientific research.

Thanks again for your tireless work,

CLAY HARREN

MESSAGE RECEIVED: 2943#4#28 SET, 01:06gmt . . >

Senator,

I apologize for being blunt but are you really going to charge scientists for the privilege of studying one of the largest celestial events in recent memory? That seems tremendously unfair as there are countless disciplines of science that could benefit from the ability to witness and study a collision between two planetary objects.

While I understand that the local Ellis governments and the UEE will inevitably open up the planetary debris for processing by mining companies, I beg you to allow the entire scientific community the time and freedom to glean what knowledge we can from the event itself and its immediate aftermath. The applications could help us understand the inner workings of planets themselves.

Apology accepted, Dr. Fordhel. I assure you that we will judge all offers from the scientific community with the future development of Humanity and the UEE in mind. Thank you again for your efforts. They will not be forgotten when reviewing your bid.

Best,

CLAY HARREN
