信息专家处理一种独特种类的货物:知识和信息。信息的处理对于宇宙中的所有其他的贸易都至关重要,例如,对采矿者来说富矿的位置,又或是对海盗来说,货船的路线。信息专家每天都在处理此类信息,用来交易和交换货币、其他商品或报酬。[5]

信使是一艘对于信息贸易及有价值的飞船,无论是合法的亦或是非法的。它能够在宇宙中安全地传输关键数据,或者可以配备拦截、解密和彻底窃取数据包以出售给出价最高的人。在不那么引人注目的一面,信赖 新闻等新闻飞船仅仅使用高功率光学器件和传感器生成信息,并在整个宇宙中传播。[6]

医疗

宇宙是一个充满危险的地方,伤者总会寻求医疗救助。拥有配备医疗床的飞船的飞行员特别适合在太空中提供医疗护理。奋进也兼作死亡角色的“出生点”,允许他们从机库购买一艘新船并返回战斗。[7]

医疗飞行员还可以扮演“搜索和救援”的角色,将他们的飞船航行到危险地点,来寻找、搜寻和稳定受伤的船员。这些医疗船可能会在主力舰战斗后搜寻战场以拯救被弹射的船员,或者在科学家死于辐射中毒之前将他们从不稳定的空间站中拉出来。[7]

雇佣兵

雇佣兵是宇宙的枪手,接受各种战斗角色的军事或私人合同。这些合同可能来自NPC或其他玩家,并且是最简单的任务之一:找到目标并摧毁它。

采矿

采矿是指发现、提取和精炼原矿石以在市场上出售,使用飞船来完成大部分任务。罗伯茨太空工业猎户座星际公民中最大的采矿船示例,也是最有能力完成这些任务的飞船。

采矿将是游戏的主要职业之一。成功进行采矿作业需要技巧和创造性思维,而不是重复按下按钮。其中的要素包括关注商品市场来确定要开采什么矿石,然后找到一个合适的包含矿物的小行星带,最后在开采后出售你的货物。以下所有专家职位都可能由玩家或 NPC 担任,更有经验的 NPC 以卓越的方式履行职责,但通常以要求更高的月薪为代价。[8]

客运

客运是玩家可以承担的独特职业。运输飞船的目标是以尽可能舒适的方式将乘客从一个地点运送到另一个地点。首先,在获得许可之前,必须拥有例如创世纪 星航之类的飞船。其次,飞船停靠在公共着陆台,当地的航班时刻表电脑开始向公众广播可用座位。一旦船载满乘客和物资,它就会起飞。

在运输过程中,玩家必须管理雇用的船员、不守规矩的顾客,并尽量满足所有顾客的需求。电脑终端、饮料搅拌机、医疗设备和娱乐终端都可以用来保持最高水平的幸福感和满足感。着陆后,乘客会通过反馈来改变您的声望,然后下船。一旦客舱清空,这艘船就准备好接受新的补给并开始新的航线。[9]

海盗

海盗是通过攻击宇宙中的其他玩家来非法盗窃货物、货物和船只。弯刀之类的船只拥有强大的武器和够大的货舱,可以带走他们宝贵的战利品。

竞速

当飞船或组件损坏时,必须对其进行修理。这些维修可以在NPC空间站或行星边上简单而低成本地完成。但是对于实地,快速的维修,只有有经验的维修工(希望拥有坩埚维修船)才能完成。

修理是一个相对简单的职业:修理损坏的飞船获得报酬;然而,好的修理工作和坏的修理工作之间的区别可能会导致飞船因组件故障而毁坏。维修人员必须使用正确的材料,高效准确地应用它们,并保持组件运行。[11]

打捞

打捞是对飞船,空间站,或其他制品损毁后的收集和处理。例如回收者秃鹫等装备有无人机,牵引光束,和回收设备的飞船专精此项工作,将烧焦的外壳变成有价值的材料。

游戏玩法的第一次迭代将在3.18实装,包括'分解飞船外壳'以出售材料获利和使用多功能工具修理飞船。它可以通过打捞光束获得,在回收者和秃鹫上激活打捞模式或者FPS状态下的多功能工具。回收者可以配备第二个打捞炮塔,但也会生产回收复合材料箱,这些箱子必须手动堆放在船上的存储空间中。FPS的多功能工具可以打捞小块材料和修补船体裂缝。[12]

科研

科研是收集信息并将这些信息分析成有用且有价值的数据。奋进是一艘专用科学船,配有发现级配置,具有一般研究和科学舱,结合可选的望远镜阵列,为买家提供这些数据。

走私

走私是将非法货物、信息或人员运进或者运出保护区,是贸易的一份分支。这包括在地球联合帝国宇宙运输非法药物或奴隶贸易。 为避免警方扫描,飞船必须在船上安装特殊的走私隔间,以保护物品免受扫描。[13]

贸易

星际公民中的贸易是使用飞船将商品从生产者经销给消费者。这种经销有多种形式,具有不同程度的报酬、危险和供需一致性:

  1. 贸易线路:生产者和供应商之间的供求一致。通常需要以低速率进行大容量传输。只有声望良好的运输商和贸易商才会被考虑。
  2. 需求: 处于危险区域或需求不频繁的消费者一般会提出并接受最低价的合同;尽管声望和过去的服务会对这个选择产生影响。
  3. 紧急情况: 突然的短缺或重大事件创造了先到先得的短期、高薪任务。

最适合贸易的飞船包括具有高载货量和/或航程的飞船。一般来说,贸易商必须在货物容量、航程和防御之间做出权衡;虽然货轮 C可以运载相对大量的货物,但如果没有护航,它几乎毫无防御能力。[14]
